  1. Sent: June 16, 2008 Hi, I just wanted to thank you for my first jump Sunday, it was an unforgettable experience! I'd always said I wanted to try skydiving at least once since I was 20, I can't believe I waited until I was 48! Our instructor, Carrie, was first rate - she talked us through everything we might encounter, and explained clearly what to do for any situation. I would highly recommend her, as well as our other jumpmaster, Michael, who couldn't have been more helpful. Although my first jump wasn't perfect, ( due to my own shortcomings ), The team and planning that went into your AFF course really paid off, as I had a great time and landed softly with no injuries ( the main concern of mine, as well as the instructors!)   I haven't decided yet whether to continue and get certified, but I'm definitely glad I went! Oh, and I almost forgot to thank John, my videographer! the footage and stills are incredible! I've already watched it 3 times, and have one of the stills as my desktop background.
    Thanks again,
    Mike Amick

  2. My sister (Betty Zvarich) and I recently did our first tandem jump with you guys.  I can't stop thinking about it!!!  I wanted to thank you guys for making this a wonderful, exciting experience for me.  Everyone at your facility was very nice, knowledgeable and helpful.  I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward my thanks to my instructor, Hector, my Knight in Shining Armor!  I felt completely safe with him, although I was extremely nervous.  When I first landed I thought, "well, I did it but I would never want to do it again."  However, with every passing day, I definitely want to jump again!  Betty and I recently lost our mother and we are in our 40's and wanted to do something worthwhile and feel alive.  I must tell you the jump has changed my outlook on life.  I can't explain it.  I'm sure you guys know exactly what I mean.  Again, please express my thanks to Hector and everyone involved with your program. Sincerely,   Debbie Rubenstein

  3. Sent: Sat, 4 Aug 2007 7:17 pm  Tony,  I just wanted to say thank you again for the GREAT time my son had today.  I can't give enough praise to the person who did the jump with my son, he and the photographer were absolutely the best ever.  Needless to say, I'm afraid Andrew is now addicted and already asking me when he can go again. Thanks again to everyone for their patience and support, the day could not have been the success it was without everyone involved! Lisa Van Aulen

  4. On behalf of Carolina Army ROTC and the 27 jumpers today (October 14, 2006), I would like to express my thanks to you and your staff for conducting an absolutely professional skydiving experience for all of us.  The class I teach my students is on leadership and I believe you provided each of them a tremendous opportunity to learn something about leadership and about themselves.  Every student had a wonderful time and expressed their desire to jump again.  I plan on including a jump as a part of my class each semester.  We all look forward to returning in March or April. Again - thanks for such a fantastic experience. Mike

  5. Raeford Parachute Center was where I did my first tandem and, consequently, AFF instruction. Even before my first jump, people went out of their way to make me feel as if I belong.

The facilities are amazing—indoor packing (on carpet, no less), restrooms and showers, shade, picnic tables, and plenty of space for watching, packing, or resting, plus RV hookups, gear rentals, lots of landing space and outs (for when you need them!). Raeford also has Sky Kat for your skydiving needs and Aviators to help those of us who somehow manage to get hungry after a full day at the DZ or for after-hours refreshments.

Above all, though, Raeford has the most amazing people. Kate and Tony are extremely knowledgeable about the sport and genuinely care. Others, be they world champions, Golden Knights, or fun jumpers with decades in the sport, have always been extremely welcoming and friendly, offering advice or finding someone who could if they were unable. Any time assistance is needed, from learning to pack to a thumb’s up on the plane to helping spectators find jumpers in the sky, someone has taken the time to help and seems thrilled to be able to do so.

Where else in the world can a skydiver learn from so many world champions? Where else in the world can a skydiver meet and be welcome into an instant family?
Only at Raeford.  (copied from www.dropzone.com. DZ reviews. Written by A.J.)
  6. Wow. I am still smiling. What an awesome experience I had this past Saturday at the RaefordParachuteCenter. I completed a tandem jump with Mike Elliot, along with Jared, our camera man. The weather was perfect.I felt no fear. The only time I felt anxious was when my husband Steve asked me if I had plans for Saturday because he had a tandem jump lined up for me-something I have wanted to do, but now it was becoming a reality...Saturday morning, I felt ready.Thank you, Mike. Thank you Jared. Thank you to all that made this happen for me. Mike, I appreciate how everything was explained to me (video etc). I never felt nervous. I never was questioning myself. It all came together as if I have been doing this all along.I loved it! So cool. So beautiful. I am so hooked. I want to do this again, and am seriously considering learning how to sky dive.I stepped (jumped) out of my box Saturday, and there is no going back! Thank you also for my pics and video. You will see me again, and in the meantime, stay safe.   Mary E. Osinski

  7. I was just watching my DVD on my jump on 09-02-06 and I had to send you guys an e-mail thanking you again for such a wonderful experience. Johnny and Jake both made me feel so at ease. I can't wait to do it again. Let Johnny know that he said we we're to jump on three not two, but I forgive him. Jake never did say why he was called GIMP, maybe that's a good thing. Again I could not have asked for two greater guys than those two. I want these two as my instructors since I am determined to skydive solo. Thank you Tony for having a facility that allows people like me a chance to do this. Sincerely, Cathleen Henley

  8. I wanted to express my thanks to you and your staff for the great experience my son and I had this past Saturday.  It was truly amazing and we look forward to signing up for the AFF course in the near future.  Will and British Bob did a phenomenal job.  They were professional, very safety conscious, answered all of my questions, and, most of all, we had fun!!!!
ARCH, RELAX, HAVE FUN!!!  I'll never forget those simple instructions.
In addition to the jump, I have finally been able to answer those who continually asked the question, "why would you ever jump out of a perfectly safe airplane?".  It's obvious this "skydiving thing" must be genetic.   Also, my son has posted several of his jump pictures on his My Space site and has become an instant celebrity among his classmates.  In fact several parents have called wanting to know when we're going back, as their high schooler's want to join the ranks of skydivers.  When Zach and I come back, we might have 3 or 4 young folks that will want to tandem.  I'll make certain to call for appointments and, of course, get the appropriate paperwork.
Again, thanks for the great time and we look forward to seeing you and the gang in the near future!
    Best regards,  John D. Trent

  9. Wow!  I cannot thank you all enough for making my first tandem jump truly amazing!  The videographer was amazing and everyone I have showed the videoto is ready for his or her first jump.  I also want to thank Mr. Incredible (P Weasler).  I think I have some form of Stockholm syndrome-not the onewhere they fall in love with the captor but the version of the one where they fall in love with the person who guides them safely to the ground. Tim was a hoot and everyone down there was so friendly.  I have to share this hilarious picture that has had me in stitches.  Paul said we should tie our shoes but it wasn't until the parachute opened that I realized maybe I did not tie mine on tight enough.  thank you again and I can't wait to get down (or up) there again.- Whitney  I named Paul Mr. Incredible because I look like rubber girl in the picture and he looks like Mr. Incredible.  I think that should be his new nickname down there ;-)

  10. Raeford Parachute center has stolen my heart. Between the friendly staff who are always willing to provide assistance and advice when you need it most and don't look down their noses at anyone (regardless of jump numbers), and the calibre of jumpers out there, you simply can't go wrong jumping at Raeford. The facilities are immaculate, and the food is awesome!

If you want a warm reception and friendly jumpers to spend good times with and have excellent memories to look back on, Raeford's what you're looking for. (copied from www.dropzone.com. DZ reviews. Written by McDuck)
  11. I love Raeford Parachute Center.. From the owners, Tony and Kate, the professional staff and wonderful North Carolina view.. All tandem instructors are wonderful and so are the videographers. Everyone makes you feel right at home.. Definitely get a video if it's your first or 10th time.. Never know what to expect as far as clouds, manuevers, etc... It's so worth the money.. Have a great time and Blue Skies!!! Susan Hewett Morgan (copied from www.dropzone.com. DZ reviews. Written by Skygypsy1)
  12.  I've always wanted to try skydiving so when I decided to go for it I checked dropzone.com for local locations. Raeford seemed like it would be a good place to start and boy is it. Tony Thacker and Kate have a great crew, very experienced tandem masters, AFF instructors and camera flyers; they are always friendly and very helpful. Raeford also has a covered outdoor packing area as well as an indoor packing area, also they have two twin Otters for a fast lift and easy exits. Another big plus is the Aviator’s Grill & Pub, so if you want to get started (like me) or if you are just in the area stop by Raeford and enjoy. (copied from www.dropzone.com. DZ reviews. 13. I recently completed my 2nd tandem at Raeford Parachute Center. Let me tell you, I was way more nervous the 2nd time than I was my first.. I knew what I was getting myself into and I had read a lot of things on emergencies, fatalities, etc.. Psyched myself out, really.. My downfall was waiting 2 years between my 1st and 2nd jumps.. Anyway, I spent 3-4 hours at the DZ before I got suited up and just being around Tony and his staff made me so much more comfortable. They are wonderful people and so full of knowledge and they just are a great group of people to be around.. They know when to have fun and when to be serious. My 2nd tandem was a wonderful experience. I jumped w/Golden Knight, Joe and Mark (also Golden Knight) was my videographer. They were fun and friendly and professional and again, I recommend RPC to all whuffos and repeat skydivers. I plan to go again within 2 months for my 3rd and 4th dive, then hopefully start AFF along with my brother, Darien.. Blue Skies and thank you so much Tony and all of RPC staff!! 14. great weather, friendly jumpers of ALL levels, well worth a visit. Keep it up Raeford.! (copied from www.dropzone.com. DZ reviews. Written by pokie)
  15. I went there to watch a friend do a tandem and fell in love. I had to jump and I had to do it now. Tony (TThack) singed me up and off I went. I did two tandems that Sunday and took my AFF ground school the following Saturday.I got my A license and followed up with my B license with many, many laughs. These people take you into their fold and make you a member of the group. They make sure that you are comfortable with your jumps and with your experience on the drop zone. You feel like family after just one day. They always remember your name and make a point to introduce you to their friends and family members. TThack and Kate (the owners) make an extra effort to include everyone in on the after hours fun. Showing movies (bring your favorite DVD) on the wall outside the school, BBQs after the beer light was turned on was only the start. They went so far as to include me (and may other displaced soldiers) in their holiday meals in their home. I am now back in Florida and looking for a home DZ. The problem is that I keep comparing them to Raeford. They introduced me to the sport and taught me how treat people with an open heart and a sense of humor. (copied from www.dropzone.com. 16. Dear Tony & Everyone who helped make a dream come true:
  17. I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the wonderful gift of true adventure (free fall) and liberation (floating in the sky with Ken in control) I experienced along with my 18 yr old daughter, Tori, on May 8th...the day before Mother's Day!!  My dear neighbor, Eli Monroe, coordinated with you to create an adult version of "Make-A-Wish" for me at a time when there has been very little excitement in my life because of major illness.  Tori and I still cannot believe that we actually did skydive, but luckily we have the gift of photos and video that prove the point to us and all other doubters and non-believers!

Tony, your generosity and kind willingness to go along with Eli's plan is really awesome.  My Mother's Day weekend stories have been by far the most interesting of any that I have ever heard before, particularly because skydiving is so completely inconsistent with the typical Jan Cheek behavior!!  Your team of players that helped us achieve this dream was awesome too.  Ken was so patient and calming for me...and he was friendly, fink, and sensitive to my weaknesses...and he was strong enough to compensate for all my deficits, and considerate enough of my feelings to not let me obsess or be embarrassed for all that I feared I would not be able to do well because of my illness.  I felt totally safe with his leadership from beginning to end...Thanks, Tony for assigning Ken to be my tandem guide...and THANKS to you Ken, for making it such a remarkable experience.

Tori had an equally great time with Billy.  He made her laugh from beginning to end and allowed her to be very involved with much of the process.  It was really a thrill for her to be able to pull the cord to their chute.  Thanks, thanks, thanks to you, Billy!  She is addicted to the thrill already and wants it to become a habit and not just a "Make-A-Wish" deal for Mom!  I am saving my pennies to give her the opportunity again...I don't know if I can save enough for her to have a habit, though, but she is quite a determined spirit and I imagine she will figure out how to make it happen one way or another in her future!  My oldest daughter regrets that she "chickened out" and did not try the jump, but I am saving pennies for her to join her Veteran sister, Tori one day in the skydiving survivors alumni!

I regret that I do not know the name of the videographer, but he was also a very kind soul...and he did a fantastic job with the photos and video...And it is a good thing too, because we really do have to use them frequently to prove that we are not making up this whole bizarre story of freefalling out of an airplane named Barney from over two miles up in the sky!!  Thank you, thank you Mr. Movie Man!!  Thanks for the "proof" and especially for your kindness.

Skydiving was a silent dream for me and really a bizarre and ironic one...I truly do not like heights.  Even ladders are often too great a challenge for me, but skydiving has always been a fascinating and enticing endeavor to me for some reason...I think because it seemed like it might be the closest thing to floating and enjoying the view and beauty of God's earthly gifts. And it was just what I thought it would be - the freefall was terrifying and the parachuting was blissful!  It was a spiritual experience for me also...that may sound weird, but the willingness of you and your team to give of yourselves to make my wish come true combined with the joy of drifting in the clouds was inspirational  May you all be blessed in wonderful ways that make you feel as special as you made me and my family feel recently...with fond regards to all of you who contributes, Jan Cheek.

  18. Oh hey, Raeford Parachute Center!  I was there this past Saturday (July 26) with my best buddy and former college roommate, Anita.  She had said for years that she wanted to jump out of a plane before she turned 40.  Thanks to you all, she was able to get her wish (okay, I helped 'cause I supplied the $$$).  Of course, if she's having an adventure, I'm gonna be there too!  Her jumpmaster, Mike and videographer Greg were both wonderful.  However, I'm partial to my jumpmaster Carlos, and videopgrapher Chris, who could not have been more excellent to work with. The videos and still shots will be treasured forever.  And the experience will be relived and enjoyed for a long time, too.  Once again, MANY THANKS for making our latest adventure something we'll find ourselves smiling about for years to come.  We'll definitely be back!  Kathy Prickett.  P.S.  On another note, I understand that Chris and Mike will be shipping our all too soon.  Godspeed to both for safe stays and quick returns.  Blessed be to both.
  19. Team Raeford - Many Thanks for an unforgettable 1st skydiving experience!  Kate's instruction provided the foundation and Alex & Bob provided steadfast free-fall support, which combined enabled me to dive/float/land with confidence and a burning desire to return to the sky as soon as possible.  warmest, Koleman E. Karleski
  20. Hello all, I am still on a natural high from my tandem on Friday, Sept. 3rd.  It was absolutely wonderful.  I have truly never experienced ANYTHING like that in my life.  And although I will probably never be able to capture the way I felt that first time, I am forever changed and can't wait to get back to do it OVER and OVER again.  You guys were great. Thanks for the AWESOME experience!!!!!!  Kind regard, Lucretia R. Moore.
  21. Thank you for the wonderful experience on August 21st. Everyone was so nice.  Your enthusiasm  certainly shows through making me feel comfortable and welcome.  I appreciated that John explained everything to me in such detail.  My son also commented on how friendly everyone was.  I am very glad my first skydive experience was at your center.  If I ever get to that area again, I'll stop in for another jump.  I have been telling everyone here at home in Michigan about my skydiving adventure. Thank you! Teresa DuBois
  22. Would any one think I was crazy for calling Raeford Parachute Center my home DZ?? I live in Iowa!!!
I am just learning the sport and couldn't have picked a better place to start. I fly down every few weeks to keep current. That's how good this place is!!!!
Tony and Kate go out of their way to make sure all your needs are met. They have every thing you need on the DZ, and if they don't they will try and get it for you. "The only thing they haven't done for me is move RPC to Iowa. "HA HA"
Ok no review of RPC would be complete with out saying something about SkymonkeyOne" Chucky Blue" It takes a real friend to throw you out of an airplane. Thanks Chucky!!!!!

  23. I wanted to share with y'all the email I sent to several - okay a LOT - of my friends.  (I'm still smiling from my first tandem jump on July 26!)  This is one adventure I'm going to relive over and over - and I WILL jump again one day.  Anyway, I hope y'all will get a chuckle too.  Besides, it's a great picture of Carlos, my tandem master. Many thanks again for the experience! Kathy Prickett
  24. I thank you very much for taking the time to introduce me to the thrilling sport of skydiving. Your generosity and efforts have not gone unnoticed.  I have enjoyed each and every jump including the drop zone, crew/staff/pilots, and the experience as a whole.  Looking forward to seeing you and everyone else in about a month.  Thanks again for everything! blue skies, Joe
  25. Raeford is about halfway from Florida to New York and about 25 miles from I-95. It's the perfect place to break up that trip and worth one in itself. I was there mid-week and it was overcast in the morning. So, it was quiet after the Army called it a day. I met Tony, Kate and a bunch of friendly folks. Chuck Blue was a great host. It cleared enough for the C-182 to fly more than 10 loads in the afternoon (min. 2 people). The landing area is grassy and huge and there are places to land out, but Tony's drops were right on the money. When the beer light comes on, you MUST try Monkey Fries (and the wings were good too) and have a couple with new friends. I really enjoyed the people and will be back as soon as I can. Thanks!

  26. Tony, I can't put into words how much I enjoyed my first AFF jumps at Raeford Parachute Center.  You were so kind to support me with the rig rental but the best part was hearing your strong yet calm reassuring voice on the other end of the radio.  After the initial butterflies from freefall left, it was the landing and actually getting back to the DZ under my own power that was the most intimidating.  But there you were, talking me down and greeting me with that great big smile of yours and those bright blue eyes.  By the fourth jump I was beginning to feel confident of my own decisions under canopy.  The weekend could have been improved only if Kate had been able to be there to share in the fun too.  So, thanks for making my Memorial Day weekend very special.  A weekend I will never forget!! with many thanks, Jo
  27. Found Raeford Parachute Center on the internet after searching for a place to do a tandem jump. I was highly impressed with the attention I received as a first time tandem jumper. The total experience (tandem jump/receptive atmosphere) inclined me to enroll in their Accelerated FreeFall course. Doing training jumps with members of the Golden Knights as jumpmasters is indescribable. Incredible place. Incredible.

  28. Kate and Tony, I wanted to say thank you for being so good to me and making me feel so welcome in your world.  I need practice, but I love skydiving.  Bob, Billy & Ken are great. I'll be back as soon as I can. Blessings, Christen B.
  29. I have been to RPC a couple of times now, and have found everything great. Tony and Kate are very friendly, and they both want the best for their customers. Both of them have loaned me equipment when I was in a bind, and Kate tries to make sure that everybody has somebody to jump with. I have been in their Twin Otter and CASA, and I have seen them send many loads up even though the plane didn't have enough people on it to make it profitable.
They make sure nobody has to walk or hitch a ride back to the DZ in case of an off-DZ landing; also, its nice to have a gear store and a nice bar & grill right on the DZ.
If your in North Carolina, visit Raeford, and check them out, because it is worth the drive.

  30. To all who are thinking about jumping their first time: Raeford Parachute Center is very professional, friendly, just an awesome place to jump. Chuck Blue (Skymonkey) is an wonderful instructor, full of knowledge and humor, mixing it all up just right. I was kinda nervous jumping at first, but once my feet left the plane, it was an indescribable, incomparable feeling and I'm totally hooked. I will definitely recommend Raeford Parachute Center to anyone wanting to try this. Thank you, Skymonkey, for a wonderful leap and thank you, A.C. for a wonderful video. (BY the way, all first timers, it is DEFINITELY worth it to get the video.)I'll be seeing you guys again!
    "Blue Skies!!"
    Susan Morgan
  31. Thanks so much SkyMonkey and all the rest of the Crew! It was the greatest experience ever, I can't believe I want to do it again! A must for anyone wanting to try for there first time.  Blue Skies!
    Darren Hewitt
  32. I started at RPC with my first jump, a tandem, and never looked back. I have been to a few other drop zones and, though it's nice for a change of scenery, they still don't have the same personal touch that RPC has. The staff not only greets you as a customer but as a new friend. The food is great. Make sure you ask the locals about the stuff that's not on the menu yet (mmm - Monkey Fries!!!). I can't say much about lodging because, being a wannabe DZ bum, I'm not super picky. Nevertheless, there are plenty of accomodations from campgrounds to Hotels and everything in between. Got gear? SkyKat gear shop has supplies and the school has rentals for very reasonable rates. I love it there. I'm actually thinking a long drive to work may not be such a bad thing if I can live there. Come visit and see for yourself. (copied from www.dropzone.com DZ reviews. Written by dragontail)
  33. My first trip to Raeford was amazing. I had no idea the dz was so great. The people there are so friendly. The funjumpers, manifest staff, dzo's are top notch. Having Aviators on site is very nice. They have good food and very reasonably priced. Skymonkeyone is so good at working with people and helping them improve. Tony and Kate keep the dz having a nice familyish feel to it. Having dzo's that are avid jumpers is a big plus. I didn't get a chance to check out Skykat, but someone else went in there to buy some rubber bands, Kate just handed her a handful of them at no charge!!
If i didn't live 15 hours away, Raeford would be my home dz. I can't wait to get back there.

  34.  Thank you! We appreciate the time and effort you gave to support the education of our children. The students at Devers had a great day!  We look forward to having you come again!  Many thanks, Devers Elementary
  35. Wow...words can't begin to describe the wonderful experience I has last weekend at RPC. Tony and Kate have an extremely well run operation. They are concerned for your safety and go out of their way to ensure everyone from the newbie to the experienced jumper is both challenged and sees many successes.

I met a group of friends from all over at RPC last weekend. We were instantly engulfed in the "family". Tony made sure manifest looked after all of us quite well from making sure we were on loads to making sure everyone made it back from out landings. The coaching and talent was outstanding. Raeford is home to many of the best in the "business" and the organization proved it. Whether you FF or do RW there is definitely something here for everyone.

Sky Kat gear store also rocked. I ordered my new jumpsuit before I left. Tony took care of EVERY detail and promises that it will be right. Kate sold me my helmet on my first trip up and I love it. Thanks Kate!

Thank you Tony and Kate for having such a great place that I can call my home away from home. It is well worth the 5 hour drive. You guys ROCK!
(copied from www.dropzone.com DZ reviews. Written by Mouth)
  36. Tony - You and your staff ROCK!  Thanks for a great time - I'll be back (someday!)  I've already recommended you to my co-workers - Thanks again for making my 40th birthday AWESOME!  Jennifer Lewis
  37. I just got back from a great weekend at RPC. The place has it all. From SkyKat being on site to the wide open landing area to the avalibility of jump planes to the people... I've been to plenty of DZ's all over the US and Raeford has it all put together the right way and setup for the fun jumper.

The skill level of the jumpers is far above average and they are all more then willing to jump with you and help. The freefly teams openly seek people out to jump with, the RW organizers are the likes of Golden Knights, ex Golden Knights or other top of the line jumpers. Canopy coaching is availble from a Pro and even students would have a hard time getting lost in the flow around there since every one is so friendly and seeks new people out. There is a very professional crew in charge of students and I was very impressed watching them.

Aviators and the Monkeybago make for a great night scene. Ask about the Monkey frys at the bar if you are hungry :-)

I'm not sure what else one could ask for in a DZ. Raeford really has all that a jumper needs.

If your within a few hours and want to have great weekend, stop in and make a few jumps with Kate and Tony. I doubt you'll be disappointed!

  38. Good morning, I just wanted to thank you; John Hawke and Jake Conrad for making my husband's first tandem skydive so wonderful.  Everyone there was just great.  My husband had an awesome time - - he's told EVERYONE all about it. And, well, so have I here at work.  Hope you have a great holiday, Kirsten Speer.
  39. Recently the weather in NC has been a little bad as it tends to be this time of year (February/March). Allot of jumpers have been dieing for a skydive. This weekend the weather was bad until about 1 Sunday afternoon. Tony Thacker managed to pull off 4 otter loads before the sun went down not to mention the Cessna load just prior. It was an amazingly fun day for everyone involved.
The staff at Raeford have an outstanding knowledge of all aspects of skydiving. If you want to learn they know how to teach. If you want new gear the can get it and tell you what to expect from it (even if its brand new).
Overall Raeford is a great place to learn and an even better place to call home.  (copied from www.dropzone.com DZ reviews. Written by PadawonMonkey)
  40. The tandem jump experience, Sunday 10-31 was OUTSTANDING. Jay Perkins was right...it is addicting. Now he's trying to talk me into going to jump school with him.  Tony is an outstanding jump master.  No matter how nervous you get, I was borderline going into cardiac arrest ...Ha Ha, he keeps you calm.  All the instructors/cameramen were really cool.  I'm sure they laughed at how stressed our I was over beers that night. If Santa Claus gets my letter, maybe he'll send the funds necessary to learn to jump solo. Every plane that flys overhead stirs up the urge.  I'm sure I'll see you again real soon. Bill Jackson
  41.  Tony and Kate Thacker run the drop zone and they are wonderful people. Skydiving Legend Gene Paul Thacker calls this place home. So do the Golden Knights. Lots of great coaches are available and all of the ones I have worked with were all great. Lots of skydiving knowledge out here at the drop zone I call home and proud of it. There are some pretty good freeflyers out here too.

  42. Thanks for a great time Sunday!  The tandem jump was an incredible experience. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.  Everyone at RPC was great, just like I'd been told before I went. A.C. and Greg, you guys rock!  Hope to see y'all again when Jennifer decides to go!  Renee
  43. RPC is an awesome place with a friendly atmosphere. I've made my 1st through 100th there and will probably have many more. This definatly is a top notch place with top notch aircraft, staff, and food. Highly recommended!

  44. Dear Kate, We cannot thank you and Raeford enough for your participation in our recent Festival - did I say "participation?:  I should say "the LEADERSHIP of you, Raeford and 'our' Bill!"  Though the other activities would have been interesting and fun, it was the jumps that were the core of everyone's good time.
The professionalism of all was apparent and outstanding. I'm sure the next event will draw many more people primarily because of this remarkable professional leadership.  We are grateful.  Bill showed me your article and pictures on your website on Thursday, so I sent the info to our webmaster and he has now linked your article and site to our site.  your journalism was excellent and I am especially pleased that you recognized Bill in it for his invaluable leadership.  We all love and appreciate Bill and Diane very much.  Their contributions this year have brought essential energy to the rest of the School Staff.  Speaking of contributions, I did no realize until I read your article that Raeford was giving part of their proceeds back to the School.  That is WONDERFUL.  We hope ours will be a long and mutually satisfying relationship.  May God bless us all...Thanks again for everything, Janet H. Spoon, Assistant Headmaster and Director of Alumni Affairs, The Patterson School.
  45. My wife and I visited Raeford in October of 2002,from California, and found the experience sensational. The staff, including Tom, Kate, Tony and Dan, were very helpful and accommodating. One of my sons did a tandem with Chuck Blue and fell in love with the sport based on that experience. My wife and I both did jumps from the Twin Otter and were amazed by the beauty of the North Carolina area, especially considering how brown California is during the summer.
We honestly found the staff so friendly and fun to interact with that it was sad to leave, but we intend to return to Raeford next year. We highly recommend Raeford. Buy the long sleeved shirt with the Raeford Dragon on the front from SkKat!

  46. Hey guys, I did my first tandem this past weekend with RPC.  I had a great time wish you were close to where I lived and I would be there every weekend. You all do a great job. I felt really comfortable, and everything was explained really well. I will be back again. My tandem master Tony Cortez did a great job.  Thanks again to you all, Steve Anderson
  47. This place rocks, tony and kate run a top notch dz out there. I will never look at monkeys the same way again.

  48. Tony and Kate Thacker have a great place to Skydive. First, an Otter and two Cessna 182s with a Super Otter and a Casa on call. Next is the professional skydiving school (tandems, AFF, coaching and more). Then there's Sky Kat, a make-it-happen skydiving gear store with unmatched customer service. Add the Auger Inn, a full-service Rigger Loft and Aviator's Grill (try the whiffle-burger) and you have a fantastic place to spend your skydiving vacation. Or just drop by for the weekend! Lots of folks from nearby Fort Bragg (including the world-famous Golden Knights) and Pope Air Force Base, and a cast of local characters as well. Best of all, they make you feel at home. Southern hospitality and a love of the sport overshadow the business aspect of this DZ. You will be happy you came!

  49. Hello to you guys in Raeford.  Just wanted to say thanks to Chuck for helping with my jump.  Chuck I'm going to work on my barrel rolls next jump & trying to land on that dot on the ground. I don't want to waste all that good training you gave me. thanks again, Joe Jackson
  50. I learned to skydive here with the likes of Skymonkeyone and Providiot with much helpful advice from providiot's wife Suzy. Great DZ with everything a jumper needs from Sky Kat gear shop, Auger Inn (Rigging facility), Aviators pub for cool buds and tasty waves, and a great group of people. Plenty of jump planes (Otter as in two, Casa on special occasions, C182 usually 2 flying during the busy summer, showers, camping area, lots of outs, and some of the finest skydivers in the world jump here. Only thing I could ask for is some AC packing area. I know Tony..."Good lord that's expensive".....Make sure to visit the Monkey Zone (Green Beret Sport Parachute Activity) usually centered near the Monkeybago and marked by a small green flag. And no Greg....you cant smoke all my cigarettes....

  51.  I was visiting my sweetie in Raeford last week and she brought me by your place so I could look and sniff around.  I've been a tandem instructor for Bill Dause in CA for over 13 years now and I rarely take time out to see any other operations.  I didn't come to NC to do any skydiving so I didn't bring my gear, but it was nice to be around skydiving, if for only a few minutes.  It was a week day, so less was going on, but I did watch a couple of twin otter loads go up.  I liked the way the center is laid out and the sharply defined landing area.  My girlfriend is the sister of Tim & Colleen, so she knew a few of the fellas there and introduced me around.  I bought a couple of souvenir shirts while snooping in the gear store. The guy in there seemed happy to have someone to talk to, and was very friendly.  The gal at manifest was also friendly and just cocky enough to make what is probably a good manifestor.  Business people always like hearing feedback on their businesses, so I just thought I'd drop you this email to let you know that I think your DZ is very nice, and if/when I come back to NC, I'll definitely bring my gear!  Sincerely, Robert "Duke" Machado D13280
  52. Raeford is my home DZ. It has been since I got to North Carolina in late 1984. I am no xenophobe who is scared to venture out and try other place either. This place just seems to get better and better every year. It would take too long to tell the whole story, so I will just relay how things are now:

Our DZ is home to two Twin-Otters, a CASA-212, two C-182s, and one pristine Twin Bonanza that doesn't get flown anymore. Tony Thacker and his wife Kate just bought the civilian skydiving side of the business from Gene Paul Thacker, the DZO for the past 32 years. For now, Kate and Tony have one of the Otters and two C-182s, with the other Otter and CASA available on contract if needed. Raeford truly is a full-service dropzone. It is home to the SkyKat gear shop (run by Kate and Tony), the Auger Inn Paraloft (owned by Master Rigger Eddie Spears), Aviators Bar and Grill (owned and operated by Thomas Wolf), Zero Time (an aircraft maintenance and rebuild service run by James "Err" Wood and ex-Golden Knight Jim Nipper), and Raeford Skydiving Service (a full-service student training vendor owned by Brian Quick and managed by Steve Ahlfeld). Raeford is also home to the Green Beret Sport Parachute Activity and the 82nd Sport Parachute Activity. The Golden Knights competition teams call Raeford home and maintain their permanent team rooms on the DZ.

The dropzone itself is quite large with well maintained, nice green grass the predominant surface. Raeford has lots of shade in which to pack or just chill out. There is a nice covered packing area with ceiling fans in case you don't use a mat. Packers are available if you use those services.

There is plenty of room to park your RV or pitch your tent, though we are lacking 30-amp services. We have plans to run a row of full hookups in the near future. That is good, since we recently dismantled our bunkhouse and rented it to the riggers due to lack of usage. There IS one very nice bunkhouse left, but it only sleeps two, so first come, first serve.

Raeford is a family dropzone. Kids and animals are welcome so long as they do not make the mistake of marking anyone's gear. Be advised that we REALLY frown on that here.

We have world-class RW and S&A coaching available at Raeford. It is home to quite a few CSL skydiving teams and other very capable jumpers. There are lots of good vibes on the DZ, both during the day and after dark.

If you are anywhere along the Atlantic seaboard or coming up I-95, then stop in and visit. Look me up if you come!  Chuck

  53. Thanks for a good jump with you all on Saturday with 27th.  I also appreciate your putting up with me and my BS. Between Barry and me, we got some good photos.  I'll bring them when I fly in - if there are any you like, I'll have some copies made.  Thanks again Joe Kramer.
  54. Tony - When a group of Parachute Regiment form the United Kingdom visited Fort Bragg, as part of the tour we had a small period of R&R. It was at this time I had the pleasure of being taught to skydive by yourself, taking me to category 8 with no re-runs.  I'm hoping that the name that you bestowed me "Cool Breeze" may happily allow you to reflect on this time.  Well, there are few times in life that you feel that you grasp the hand of a moment that should last forever, at that time I did.  It has been many years since my time in the military came to pass.  Since then I have been consumed by fatherhood and married life. But in all this, never have I forgotten my time at Raeford.  It was a special time for me.  Thank you Darren Barnes
